The Summer Azerbaijan Athletics Championship, jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation, has concluded. More than 160 athletes from the capital and various regions of the republic, including national members, demonstrated their skills in the competition held at the AIA stadium and the AAF throwing base. The tournament was of great importance in terms of collecting rating points for the license to the World Championship and the Islamic Solidarity Games, as well as selection for the European Team Championship and the Balkan Championship.
Representatives of the “Neftchi” Sports Club confidently fought in the championship and won 7 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medals.
One of our athletes, Nazim Babayev, won silver medals in each of the triple jump (16.11 meters) and long jump (7.49 meters) events. Lamiya Valiyeva finished the 100 (12.11 seconds) and 200 (24.96 seconds) races faster than anyone else. Ismayil Aliyev became the national champion in each of the shot put (17 meters), discus throw (47.51 meters) and hammer throw (41.06 meters). Irada Aliyeva won gold in the javelin (42.48 meters), and silver in the shot put (10.27 meters) and hammer events (22.26 meters). Orkhan Gasimov became winner with a result of 54.06 meters in the javelin events. Islam Gahramanov took second place in the same event (48.36 meters). Our other athlete, Bulbul Babayev, won a bronze medal in the high jump with a result of 1.65 meters.
