“Neftchi” Sports Club achieved remarkable results in 2023

Thanks to the effective state policy led by the President of Azerbaijan Republic and the President of the National Olympic Committee, Mr.Ilham Aliyev our country has reached a high level of development in physical education and sports. The successes of Azerbaijani athletes in prestigious international sports competitions, as well as the successful organization of world-class events in our country, are clear indicators of this achievement.

The “Neftchi” Sports Club continuously participates closely in the implementation of state policy in this field and has successfully continued its work in 2023.

Throughout the current year, the club has been organizing competitions in various sports dedicated to significant historical and festive days of our country among workers of the oil, gas, and chemical industries. Additionally, it effectively works in training professional athletes and contributes valuable contributions to the development of Azerbaijani sports.

In the year we set off, in the four sports facilities available to the “Neftchi” Sports Club: the Olympic Training and Sports Complex named Tofig İsmayılov, “Garadagh” Training and Sports Base, “Meshel” Sports Complex, and “Sumgayit” Training and Sports Hall, over 2000 teenagers and young people, as well as hundreds of oil workers, were engaged in 26 branches of sports under the leadership of 105 professional coaches.

In 2023, as a primary direction of activity, the “Neftchi” Sports Club provided free physical education and sports services to the workers of the oil, gas, and chemical industry enterprises within SOCAR’s structure and their family members. The club organized various sports tournaments dedicated to the “100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev”, including mini-football, volleyball among the women and men, orienteering, swimming, and table tennis. Furthermore, mass physical education and sports events were held for checkers in honor of ” March 8 International Women’s Day”, “Me, Dad, and Mom” tourism events dedicated to “June 1 International Children’s Defense Day, and chess tournaments dedicated to “December 31 – World Azerbaijanis’ Solidarity Day”, with the participation of hundreds of oil workers in these competitions.

According to the results of the held competitions, teams representing various kinds of sports within SOCAR were selected, and these teams achieved significant successes in various tournaments organized among state institutions throughout the year.

Throughout the year, significant successes have also been achieved in the preparation of both amateur and professional athletes. In 2023, open championships was organized by the “Neftchi” Sport Club within the framework of the “Heydar Aliyev Year,” a series of events – including chess, boxing, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, acrobatics, judo, taekwondo, and fencing.

In 2023, representatives of the club achieved high results in various competitions, including the European and the World championships among cadets, juniors, and seniors, as well as other prestigious international tournaments, national and capital-level competitions, and open championships of other sports clubs and centers. In total, our athletes won 997 medals in these competitions, with 347 gold, 277 silver, and 373 bronze medals.

In 2023, the wrestlers and judokas of the club achieved their greatest success, making historic achievements with remarkable performances in the World and the European championships.

Athletes of the “Neftchi” Sports Club, achieved high results, as well as in boxing, Muay Thai, karate, shooting, chess, and weightlifting competitions. Throughout the year, our Paralympians also performed successfully in swimming, judo, para-shooting and para-taekwondo competitions.

At the”Sports Results of the Year” ceremony , dedicated to the 2023 Sports Results and organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the club’s athletes were announced as winners in various nominations.
