The first round of the “Talent Selection” tournament among judo players under the age of seventeen (U-17) has ended. 285 athletes (244 boys, 41 girls) from 71 clubs and sports societies participated in the competition held at the Sumgayit Olympic Sports Complex.
Ulvi Jalilzade (50 kg), Ali Aliyev (73 kg), Aykhan Hasanli (81 kg) and Sema Velizade (57 kg) from the “Neftchi” Sports Club won the title of winner without losing. Zakir Taghizade (+90 kg) and Maleyka Mursaliyeva (52 kg) finished the tournament in third place.
It should be noted that the purpose of the “Talent Selection” competition is to form a healthy sub-base of the national team, identify promising athletes who are candidates for the national team, and form a stable reserve base. The athletes who finish in the top 4 places in each weight class in the final rankings of the two rounds will be involved in the “Hope of the Future” training program.
