The European Wrestling Championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, is ongoing.
Today, three more Greco-Roman wrestlers of “Neftchi” Sports Club, representing the Azerbaijan national team, have won medals at the prestigious competition. Our representatives showed great determination and claimed 2 gold and 1 bronze medals.
Among our athletes, Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) defeated Turkish wrestler Murat Firat with a score of 7:5 in the final and climbed to the highest step of the podium. With this victory, he became the first four-time European champion in Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling.
Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) defeated Adlet Tyulbayev (UWW) with a score of 4:2 in the decisive match and became European champion.
Our other athlete, Nihat Mammadli (60 kg), defeated Suner Konunova (UWW) (6:0) in the bronze medal match and secured third place on the podium.
It should be recalled that earlier, our club’s Greco-Roman wrestlers Rashad Mammadov (55 kg) and Islam Abbasov (87 kg) had won bronze medals.
It should be noted that the European Championship will conclude on April 26.
