A rapid chess tournament dedicated to the memory of Azerbaijan’s National Hero Albert Agarunov was organized jointly by Neftchi Sports Club and the “Chess Master” Chess Club named after Albert Agarunov. The tournament, dedicated to the 57th anniversary of the birth of the legendary tank commander and National Hero of Azerbaijan, brought together 55 chess players representing various sports organizations.
The main objective of the tournament was to commemorate the cherished memory of Albert Agarunov, promote his heroic legacy among the younger generation, as well as contribute to increasing children’s interest in chess, supporting their intellectual development, and ensuring the productive organization of their leisure time.
In the boys’ competition, Mammad Mustafayev (Neftchi Sports Club) claimed the title of tournament winner. Asim Sheydayev (Khachmaz District Children’s and Youth Sports-Chess School) won the silver medal, while Huseyn Mirheydarov (Albert Agarunov “Chess Master” Chess Club) secured the bronze medal.
In the girls’ competition, Maryam Geybullayeva (Khachmaz District Children’s and Youth Sports-Chess School) finished in first place. Zahra Jabbarova (Neftchi Sports Club) came second, while Amina Amanzade (Neftchi Sports Club) placed third.
The winners and prize-winners of the tournament were presented with diplomas, medals, and commemorative gifts.
