The Wrestling World Championships in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, are continuing.
On the latest day of competition, Neftchi Sports Club’s freestyle wrestlers, representing Azerbaijan as members of the national team, added two more medals to the country’s tally.
Competing in the 86 kg weight category, Arseniy Dzhioev produced an impressive performance to reach the final. He defeated Greece’s Georgios Kougioumtsidis in the quarterfinals and Georgia’s Vladimir Gamkrelidze in the semifinals to secure his place in the gold medal bout. In the final, he faced renowned American wrestler Kyle Dake. Despite a hard-fought contest, Dzhioev was defeated and claimed the silver medal.
Meanwhile, another club representative, Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg), secured bronze after defeating Hungary’s Vladislav Baitsayev 10–0 in the third-place bout, winning by technical superiority without conceding a point.
It should be recalled that Neftchi’s Greco-Roman wrestlers Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg) and Sanan Suleymanov (77 kg) had previously won gold medals at the World Championships, while Nihat Mammadli (63 kg) claimed silver.
