
The boxing competition at the III CIS Games, hosted by Azerbaijan, has reached its semifinal stage. The tournament, held at the Yevlakh Olympic Sports Complex, saw male athletes competing for a spot in the final today.
Safdar Mammadzada (+80 kg), a boxer from the “Neftchi” Sports Club, secured a place in the final by defeating Yerketang Jarkinbek (Kazakhstan) with a 5-0 score in the semifinal. Our European champion will face Farxodjon Bahadirov from Uzbekistan in the final.
In addition, four of our other boxers won bronze medals: Aylin Nazarova (46 kg), Aykhan Hasanov (50 kg), Raul Heydarli (57 kg), and Ismayil Valiyev (80 kg).
It is worth mentioning that previously, our sambists secured one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal at the CIS Games. Our club is represented by 20 athletes across 7 sports at the tournament.
The III CIS Games will conclude on October 8. A total of 1,624 athletes and 2,337 representatives from 13 countries are participating in the event. Azerbaijan has 340 athletes, Russia 262, Uzbekistan 254, Belarus 240, Kazakhstan 147, Tajikistan 144, Kyrgyzstan 126, Turkmenistan 48, Turkey 38, Cuba 11, Kuwait 6, and Oman 4 athletes at the competition.
