The U17 World Wrestling Championships continue at the National Gymnastics Arena.
Representing Azerbaijan, Greco-Roman wrestlers from Neftchi Sports Club delivered another confident performance, adding two more medals to the team’s tally.
In the 51 kg weight category, Abdurrahman Huseynli claimed the silver medal after being defeated by Uzbekistan’s Bunyod Hasanov (0–9) in the championship final. Meanwhile, Elmir Cherkezov (60 kg), who was defeated in the semifinals the previous day, secured the bronze medal by defeating Japan’s Hinata Hanamori with technical superiority (9–0) in the third-place match.
It should be recalled that Neftchi’s Greco-Roman wrestlers Isfahan Hasanov (80 kg) and Orkhan Habibli (65 kg) had previously won silver and bronze medals, respectively.
The championships have brought together nearly 700 cadet wrestlers from more than 60 countries, all competing for the world title.
